Does Smokeless Sage Exist?
September 16, 2010

The Native American tradition of burning plants, usually sage, as a way of clearing negativity is very commonly used now-a-days by people of many different belief systems. I use the art of smudging when clearing private homes, my office, or anywhere that feels like it needs a little energy lift.

But what about when you can’t burn sage?

I feel lucky to work at a marvelous treatment center for teens. The kids are really open and do great with acupuncture. Normally, I would burn sage in this type of environment, but I’m unable to use smoke there. Fortunately, I discovered the most amazing spray at Malibu Shaman. It’s called Sacred Sage by Medicine Flower. It combines sage, cedar, juniper and other purifying herbs into a super concentrated smokeless mist. It smells SO good!

I was a little dubious about using a spray instead of smoke, but it works really well. The kids love it and always ask me to spray it. It’s a wonderful way to freshen yourself and your space.

My high school english teacher, Mrs. Redclay, was the first person to introduce me to smudging. She used to say, “sage to clear out the bad and cedar to bring in the good.” I understand now why she would want to do this in a room full of adolescents. Thank you, Mrs. Redclay!

This is great alternative if you’re sensitive to smoke. It’s exquisite enough to use as your primary clearing energy tool.
